The Timber Decking Association (TDA) anticipates that 2005 will see demand for timber decking in the UK grow by around 10 %. This continues the strong growth of previous years which has seen the market double in size from £60m in 2001 to £120m in 2004.
Looking ahead, the TDA believe there is excellent growth prospects for decking, particularly in the new build and commercial sectors of the market. The TDA is focused on converting the popularity of timber decking into a sustainable market - in this respect the recent move by NHBC to require all decks to be built in accordance with TDA guidelines is a major boost.
Director of Operations, Steve Young says: "The TDA is focused on raising standards in the sector and promoting quality materials, design and workmanship. Whilst there will always be those who compete price and cut corners."
The TDA sees decking as an added value product that must be properly designed and installed. "Our aim is to help people source quality materials and contractors capable of creating timber structures that will provide years of trouble free pleasure." says Young "In 2004 over 126,000 people visited the TDA web site for help and guidance. Garden decking is definitely 'in' with the British public and becoming ever more popular" he added.
